Release of Carrier Magazine on Hamburg’s Cargo Bike Culture at XYZ CARGO this Friday 13.6., 20:00:

We’re celebrating the release of Carrier Magazine Issue 02 on June 13th at XYZ CARGO in Oberhafen, Hamburg! It will be an evening of exciting insights from the makers of Carrier, quick-fire presentations, drinks & DJs and good vibes. And, of course, the magazine will be on sale, so come and support independent journalism and be the first to get your hands on a copy!

In Carrier Issue 02 there’s 24-page deep-dive article into Hamburg’s cargo bike culture, through the eyes of some of its most interesting innovators. Editor of Carrier Tom Parr will be there to introduce this, and a selection of the other pieces in the magazine.

In addition, Carrier Issue 02 is packed with stories from all over the world: Mongolia, Spain, the UK, Mali, Norway, Chile, the USA, The Philippines and more… Published by the team behind the International Cargo Bike Festival, it’s a global ride with a focus on people.

For all those who would like to present themselves or their cargo bike project on this evening, there will be a quick-fire round of short presentations (1 slide and 3 minutes speaking time per person). It’s an opportunity for people from the cargo bike scene in Hamburg to get to know each other better. Anyone involved in a cargo bike initiative or business in Hamburg – or beyond – is welcome to present. Want to take part? Huge & colourful Demonstration in Hamburg, against fascism - and for democracy! Organized by dozens of local groups & initiatives … also with MEUTE and a large XYZ CARGO ‚TRUCK‘ from us supporting their sound system. Empowering to see over 40000 people on the streets for this ✌️

We have just completed and shipped this bio waste XYZ CARGO FOURWHEELER. Eco-friendly bike, designed for eco-friendly transport...On top of that we are ready to deliver an XYZ CARGO TRIKE classic to Austria. It was built with the assistance of our talented intern Moritz, who will hopefully be a sub-producer at some point.

Two more eco-friendly XYZ CARGO FOURWHEELERS on the way from our studio in Denmark. One is for private transportation and one is for collecting biological waste...

"We have travelled 116,840 km on our cargo bikes, which means that, in just a few days, we will have completed the equivalent of going around the Earth almost 3 times. 🌍

And those kilometres are not just a figure:

We have avoided the emission of 26.3 tonnes of CO2 that would have been released by diesel vans. And saved 10,515 litres of diesel.

This environmental impact is equivalent to planting 1,300 trees and letting them grow for 10 years."

The first production after the holidays: A XYZ CARGO COFFEE TRIKE ready to be shipped to a NGO in Oslo, Norway...

During the summer holidays we arranged a DIY workshop for Nynke and Sander in our DK studio from dutch https://ekohouse.nl. It was a great pleasure to exchange thoughts about life in general and experiences from living in different ways.
We offer workshops on demand and free accommodation during the 3 days that it takes to build a XYZ CARGO TRIKE...

We have a long tradition in Denmark of self-service roadside stalls. People take what they want and pay accordingly. We turned the XYZ CARGO MOBILE OFFICE into a shop in order for Anne Romme to sell some of her ceramic products in the small village where our studio is situated and it worked perfectly!

Quiet and peaceful sustainable production in our home-built N55 studio in Denmark. A new XYZ CARGO FOURWHEELER and a XYZ CARGO TRIKE are on the way.
Spring is here!
We believe that it matters where and how the things we use in our daily lives are produced. There are many parallels between what we do and the production of organic food.
We are currently building a network of local producers of XYZ CARGO both in the EU and the US. This saves transportation, builds local knowledge and employment. At the same time, producers pay taxes locally and support schools, hospitals and so on.
It's our way of growing. Horizontal growth as an alternative to vertical growth, which is destroying our planet. Let us know if you're interested in joining us!

Last week we teased an interesting project. Here is collaborator Hazel Darwin-Clements post about the first outing for the Retrofit Rover;

I have had a brilliant time making a pop-up neighbourhood exhibition that fits in a Cargo Trike with the extremely talented XYZ CARGO. Thanks to Porty Community Energy EdinBRIC and @EALAimpacts for trusting me to do something different and @edinburghccan for supporting this project. And of course Porty Community Energy for the trike! The idea is that it pops up in your neighbourhood and you and your neighbours gather round to have a look and a chat about retrofit and home energy. Ideally this triggers a group being set up to work together on neighbourhood solutions and support each other to do maintenance and retrofit. After all you’re likely to have similar buildings and can learn from each other. In many cases improvements may only be possible if you work with neighbours. Anyway- if you fancy hosting this pop-up in your neighbourhood let us know. And if you need any exhibitions with a climate theme that travel by trike - let me know! Oh, and yes, it’s hand-
made locally from mostly up-cycled materials and designed to be reusable/ the display changed for multi-purposes over the long term and eventually will be recyclable (thanks for asking.)
